The fourteenth encounter was a truly amazing match which could have gone either way with just a single putt……the final score of 11 to 9 literally came down to just one singles match on the final day. The event was as ever played with fierce competiveness and fair play and respect, the incredible course and weather inspired everyone to some great golf.
The fifteenth encounter was a high quality match played on three amazing courses, two in glorious sunshine and one in horrendously wet weather which proved to be a major and somewhat controversial closing round.
The encounter could have gone either way going into the final day with the score at 5 ½ to 4 ½ in favour of team PDH the day was finally settled with a narrow singles day victory of 5 ½ to 4 ½ totalling in an overall 11 – 9 win bringing the series score to 8 – 7 in favour of Mark’s team...
New Look Turnberry awaits, will Mark stretch the series lead back to two or can Team PDH level the series…should be a classic...
Team PDH missed the chance to take the series to 8 all, instead it was Team Mark stretching it to 9 – 7 with an incredible final day singles thrashing.
Day one and two belonged to PDH with solid 3 – 2 victories setting up a 6- 4 lead that could have been even better had Mark & Dave not comeback from 3 down with 5 to play to pip Gary & Jase D on the last, an incredible up and down from 100 yards from Mark in the worst conditions Turnberry had seen for years was the possibly the big difference in the belief for a final day flurry, shades of Poulter at Medinah...
On the final day it was red on the board very early and as momentum grew it all came down to Paddy v DL going down the last, with the crowd gathering the pressure was intense, Paddy needed to win the hole to secure the point and the win, when DL missed his 6 footer to take it to 10 all, Paddy stepped up and sunk the nervy 4 footer to seal a great win……golf at its best!
Can team PDH recover and bounce back in 2017 could be tricky given James joins team Mark, as always should be a thriller...
Despite going into the final day singles trailing 6pts to 4 for a second year running Team Mark increased the series lead to 10 -7 with some inspiring golf.
On trend with recent years team PDH dominated day one with a convincing 4 -1 victory which could have been even better had it not been for Paddy’s wonder 4 iron to the par 5 17th hitting the pin from 250 yards and stopping it to within an inch claiming a much needed victory. Day two saw Team Mark rally round and grind out a hard fought 3 – 2 victory ensuring a chance for the final day, a notable point was that of Ben Tarby & Drew over the inform Ben Rozy & value player Gary Williams, just shows no such thing as a banker…..not in the Brothers Challenge..
On the final day red was the colour on the board from the very start putting the blues under real pressure, only Ben Rozy and Jase Davies recorded victories which meant if Fez could get a ½ point down the last against the dogged Tarby then the play-off was all set up. With the rain coming in and the pressure mounting two tee balls out of bounds should have made Tarby’s task an easy one! Fez showed great grinding and tenacity and with Tarby faltering it looked like an 8 might get the paly-off….not to be, Tarby drained a 20 footer that had it not hit the pin we may have had a different result.
Great successive win for Mark and his team, Paul must bounce back in 2018 and bridge that gap, team PDH has to perform better in the singles...
